One Month Down - 23 to go!

Hey everyone!!!

I'm doing well!!  This week was good!!  I went proselyting again on Saturday and that was a blast!!  I was in a nicer area with clean streets and no dogs, haha but this time I didn't have a teacher!  Just me and my Latino Companion I was assigned!  It was fun!  I only got to do it for about an hour so it wasn't that exciting but it was fun to place a couple Book of Mormons.
I start the Advanced Spanish class this week so we will see how this goes!! ahhh! hahah  I can't believe its been one whole month!!  These 2 years really are going to fly right on by!!  I can't even say 2 years any more because it's less than that!! wow!!  I have a goal to be fluent by my birthday so we will see how that goes!
I met a real missionary who's serving in the Lima area.  He's from Salt Lake, been out 11 months, and he struggled hard core trying to talk English to us.  He forgot so many basic words! I want to be like that by 11 months!!  That would be sweet.
I'm loving every minute I get with my district!  It's awesome and fun!!  We are all so close! It's going to be sad when we all get to Cochabamba and have to split up!  Tonight there are no Latinos in the MTC because they left and and a new group comes in tomorrow night, so there are only about 25 white people in the MTC!  Tonight my district is all moving their mattresses into a room to sleep! haha
Yesterday I found out the MTC has been holding out on me!!!! I found a couple baseballs gloves and a ball!!  Man you talk about the most fun I've had since I've been here!  It was a great stress reliever to play catch with my companion and take ground balls!  I miss it so much!  But, I still got it!!!
I sent everyone letters on Monday so y'all should get those soonish!  I love you all so much!! This time is flying by!!  I'll be back home before you know it!!

Love,
Elder Berrett

Highlight of his time in Peru? A baseball and a glove! Surprise!!  lol
This week he sounds wonderful!
I mentioned to Rick that I thought he sounds so good, that I don't think he is even missing us!
He is so busy, he doesn't have time to even think about being homesick.
(I'm definitely missing him more than he is missing us!)

He wanted me to remind everyone to keep writing. He lives for letters from home! :)
Until next week!

Week 3

Well, yesterday's letter was a little later than I expected!  It didn't come until 2:20 in the afternoon.  So that basically means that I checked my email approximately every two minutes for 4 hours!! :)
Not really....but I did check for it often!
He seems to be doing really well and totally loving every minute of it!
For us at home, that's good to know!

Hey Everyone!!

Thank you so much for my letters!!  I got a bunch on dearelder.com!  That’s the best way to write me!  And regular writing, but dearelder works best because it gets here the quickest!  I’m working on letters for you all.  I’m just waiting on stamps.  Those should be here this week if ya’ll sent them immediately.  Who sent them again?  Grandma Joan?  I have envelopes I bought at the local grocery store so I just need the stamps.  But, thank you for sending them!
Everything is going much better!  I still have a hard time here and there but so does everyone else!  But, I really am doing a lot better.  :) I love you :)
My Spanish is really coming along.  I’m learning more and more every day.  I love trying to talk to the Latinos in Spanish!  Even when I talk in English I forget words every once in a whole.  It’s crazy! haha!  I was bearing my testimony and I forgot the word atonement, so I just said expiancion, which is atonement in spanish.  It actually makes me feel good to do that!  This week we started the intermediate class which is Spanish only, from the teachers.  Before, it was beginner and both us and the teachers could use English or Spanish.  In a week we move to the advanced class which is Spanish only!  For us and the teachers!  AHHH!  It’s crazy!
Everything else is going great!  The MTC got a new food company this week and the food is so much better and more diverse!  It’s supposed to be healthier so all the North Americans don’t get horrible diarrhea!  Almost all of them have it!  Some people have it bad and some people (like me) only have it for a day or two!  HAHA Sorry!  I know, too much information!  But the food is good and better!
This week should be good!  We are going out knocking on doors on Saturday and we have to sing (8 of us with no sisters) at a district devotional on Thursday.  I’m looking forward to Thursday because that’s when I get my letters from you guys!!  We decided that we basically have to live from Sunday to Tuesday to Thursday and sometimes to leaving the MTC to knock on doors on Saturday.  Sunday because Sundays are so relaxed and peaceful, we don’t do a whole lot.  Tuesday because it’s P-day, and Thursday because of letters!!  It’s not because we don’t like it, it’s just because being in the same place all day, everyday can get old!!  It’s nice to leave these walls every once and a while!  It can make an Elder go CRAZY!!  It will be better in the field.
But, like I said, I’m doing a lot better.  I’m trying to be as diligent as possible and lose myself in the work!  It’s working!!  I started the Book of Mormon when I got here and I’m half way through Alma!!  I should be done before I leave the MTC!  The more I read it, the more I feel the spirit and I know it’s true!  I challenge you guys to do the same!
I can only imagine how quick these next two years are going to fly by!!  I’m only in the MTC and I can’t imagine how quick it already has gone by!  I’m excited for what’s in store.  I want you all to know that my testimony has grown tremendously.  It may be hard for many different reasons, but I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else!!  This is where I’m supposed to be.  I love and miss you all so much!  Keep me updated on everyone!!

Love,
Elder Berrett

PS – Remember dearelder.com!  Thank you so much!!  Love you all!!
